Impulsive Behavior
Impulsive Behavior is a '51 CJ3A Race Jeep.
It's not a dune buggy or a sandrail. The front axle is from a postal
jeep, and all other parts are either custom or from after market
sources. Even though it only has a single jeep part, the frame dimensions
are true to an original CJ3A, so it is a JEEP.

I wanted a vehicle with more
speed than my trail Jeep could provide, which is what motivated
me to create a "purpose-built" vehicle that would run
exclusively in the sand. I decided to build a dune Jeep that would
not only do well in the sand; it would also be very fast.

Chuck had an LS6 Big Block Chevy (BBC) motor and he
also wanted to build something very fast. The result was to put
the powerful big block motor in a lightweight dune jeep. And it
moves very fast!
The current Jeep has a 468 cubic inch BBC generating just under
800Hp with almost 600 lb-ft of torque. This power plant will move
the 2100 pound vehicle to 82 mph in 4.04 seconds on a 300 foot long
race track.

The frame was custom made by Rick
Thomas of R-T Welding in Hesperia California. Rick has made a few
jeeps but each one is slightly different. Impulsive Behavior is
made to hold two big guys over 6' tall without rubbing elbows or
sitting with their knees in their noses. The rear end is wider than
most so Rick placed the four link suspension on the outside of the
frame. We also used air bags in place of coil springs to adjust
the ride height and spring rate more easily. The one-piece fiberglass
body helps create the illusion of a stock Jeep CJ.
